For parents
For parents: speech practice that fits real life
Updated
In short
Saylo is building a private speech-practice necklace that helps kids work on therapist-selected sounds between sessions, without saving recordings. Your job would be encouragement, not judging: the necklace listens for the practice words, and you see how the week went.
The problem Saylo is meant to help with
Speech therapy for speech sound errors usually needs practice between sessions, and home practice is hard. Children get tired of drills, parents aren’t always sure what “right” sounds like, and nobody wants to correct their child all day. Meanwhile the therapist can’t see what happened between visits.
Why a sound may not show up in conversation yet
Many children can say a sound in a session long before they use it in everyday talk. That’s an expected stage of therapy, called carryover or generalization. Why can my child say a sound in therapy but not at home?
What you would need to do
- Agree the target sound and practice words with your child’s speech-language pathologist (SLP).
- Give consent when you set Saylo up, charge it every few days on its cradle, and help your child put it on.
- Encourage the effort, and leave the judging to Saylo and the SLP.
- Look at the weekly summary and share it with the therapist if you choose.
What you would see
- Counts per day for each target sound: correct, error and unsure. “Unsure” is never counted as an error.
- When Saylo was paused.
- Progress week by week, with a note when there isn’t enough data to read a trend.
What the therapist would see
The practice counts you share with them, so they can choose words to work on and plan the next session. No audio, because none is kept.
Recordings
None. Saylo scores each practice word on the pill and discards the sound within a second or two. Only counts are kept, and you can delete them with one tap. Privacy and safety.
Pausing and stopping
- Your child, a teacher or you can pause Saylo by holding its button for 2 seconds; the light goes off.
- Resuming takes a 3-second hold or a tap in the parent app, and the app shows when it was paused.
- Taking it off works too: the pill sleeps when it’s off the body.
Who Saylo is and isn’t designed for
Saylo is being designed for children about 6 to 8 who are working with an SLP on a speech sound, starting with R, and who can already make the sound in their sessions.
- It isn’t for diagnosing speech difficulties. Not sure whether your child needs help? Start with Does my child need speech therapy?
- It isn’t designed for stuttering or language difficulties.
- It hasn’t been tested with children yet, including younger children.
In the US you can ask for a free speech evaluation through your public school or early intervention.
Joining
Speech therapists get early access from spring 2027, families join a founding-family beta in summer 2027, and Saylo is planned to launch in early 2028. Join the waitlist to hear first.
Founding families save $20: families who join the waitlist before Saylo goes on sale and get $20 off one Saylo necklace bought in the first 30 days after launch. One per family; can’t be combined with other offers.
Questions
Does my child have to use an app?
No. The necklace works without your child opening anything. The kids’ app is optional.
Do we need a speech therapist to use Saylo?
Saylo is designed around the sounds a speech-language pathologist picks, because practice works best when an SLP guides it.
What ages is Saylo for?
It’s being designed for children about 6 to 8.
